Download.Com - This site and Shareware.com are both hosted by CNet. They also allow your search to be run on ZDNet's download site.

Tucows - Simply a massive repository of software. One of the first software sharing sites on the Internet.

Red Hat - Free Linux distribution. Lots of other great distributions out there, but we feel Red Hat is tops in our book.

Simple End User Linux - Lots of software for that Linux box you've been working on. Check out the Education section and click on the "Existing Software" option. Designed for schools, but *tons* of interesting and educational applications!

Browser Plug-Ins - Need a plug-in for your browser to access that multimedia web site? You *will* be able to find it here, and a lot more... unbelievable list of plug-ins.

Palm PDA Shareware - So, our resident "geek-boy" (um, that's me...) had to find *something* more for his Palm PDA. Boy, it's all here! Check this site out and you'll soon find a reason to buy more RAM for your PDA. There's loads of software here for any PDA running the Palm OS.

Free Games - Recently found this site. Could be very detrimental to my free time...

Should we trust "Freeware", "Shareware" and other software available on the 'Net for download?

Follow these simple, common sense guidelines to safely download and use "Free/Shareware" software:

1 - Run up-to-date anti-virus software.

2 - Only download software from reputable sites.

3 - Scan all download files for viruses before installing them.

There are a *lot* of great programs available for little or no money on the web. With just a few simple precautions, you can utilize some of these great treasures, too!
